K Club eyes Clarke conclusion

matt_slater55x55.jpgK CLUB - Oh Woosie, you old romantic, you!

Sharon Ni Bheolain, the single saving grace of the opening ceremony, said you were "a Celt..from across the Irish sea!" and she was clearly on to something. Talk about giving the paying public they want.

In putting Darren Clarke you sent out a message to your top six - get our boy into position for the story and photo that will define this weekend.

As things stand, , and Luke Donald and Paul McGinley are scrapping away to tee Clarke up for yet another Irish victory jig at a Ryder Cup.

My only worry about such a conclusion is, with the wet weather there has been at the K Club, could the course survive a tear-provoking Darren Clarke putt for the Cup?

Alas, Clarkey's fairytale didn't come true, but as he said this morning, he didn't care who holed the winning putt, as long as it was a European.

Fantastic performance from the entire European team. Congratulations to them all for playing their part.

Particularly Woosie. After all the stick he has suffered, I couldn't be more pleased for him.

Fantastic victory - well done to all the European team but especially to Ian Woosnam and Darren Clarke for fantastic performances.
Also, it seems to have been played in the real spirit of the Ryder Cup - friendly and sporting rivalry at its best, which is so refeshing. If only other sports ...

The fairy tale didn't quite happen but what a story - winning all 5 sessions and giving the USA a spanking for the second cup in succession - not to mention now doing 3 in a row. The best team won - the US did not have the same depth that they had - with some of theri big names - notably Mickelson - not performing.

I said before the tournament that experience would count - the USA had too many Ryder rookies.

After this superb victory, perhaps it's time we suggested to the Americans that they open their team up to the top players from the rest of the world, as they obviously can't compete with what they have at present... of course I could be joking... heh heh heh...

I do not wish to take anything away from a fantastic European performance - it is always great to see the Americans humbled but I would remind those who are suggesting the Americans take on board players from the rest of the world that the Ryder Cup always used to be contested between America and GB and Ireland and was opened up to the rest of Europe when the Americans were virtually untouchable.

God yes! Sky are very good at football but their golf coverage is awful,Critchley and Murray???? masters of the obvious and they are so nearly always WRONG.. also due to the endless adverts there were times when we had no idea what was going on i.e when Nick Faldo was congratulating Luke Donald on going dormie 2 at the 16th when , in fact , Cambell was on for two, 2 putting for a win! The interviews were intrusive and the ones to the Americans after we had won were just embarassing ( " well Tom how do you explain such a massive defeat") fortunatly Toms and Lehman, although nonplussed , were couteous enough to give answer. The experts were actually very good but if Sky are going to get the cup again please please get rid of Ewan Sycophant and "Colonel" Cringely

I'd never really been into golf before, partly because I didnt fully understand the game, but can I say thank you to the fantastic team at the ryder cup I now love watching it and am starting to understand the fascinating sport.Darren Clarke is a true inspiration to many, what an emotional moment to see all the support there for him and at the end when the team embraced him!!

it's not that important, but i wish people would just try to agree on whose putt won the cup. it all depends whether one can officially count a half-point 'in the bag' from a game where you are up 'dormy' as, for example, clarke was when howell and donald won their matches. but i was glad it wasn't clarke, not because he didn't deserve it, but just to show that sport isn't scripted. and looking at clarke and team-mates afterwards, it didn't seem to spoil their evening too much, did it?
