The 25,000-word Lib Dem agenda

Michael Crick | 12:47 UK time, Friday, 17 September 2010

The editor of The Liberal magazine, Ben Ramm, has just pointed out that the agenda for the coming Liberal Democrat conference in Liverpool runs to 25,000 words, going into the minute detail of policy discussion.

"But," Ramm adds, "it does not mention 'cuts' on one occasion."

And, he concludes: "The Liberal Democrats are a party in denial."

I can well believe it. But surely it does make reference to euphemisms such as "economic restraint" and "spending reductions"? That's not denial; merely spin. And find me any political party - or even any organisation or individual, public figure or otherwise - not guilty of that.

I agree that the Liberal Democrats are in denial. Clegg took a gamble with his party when he decided to join in a coalition. The problem with gambling is that sometimes you lose. Full details and analysis on my blog here:

the LibDem party conference at Lpool will be a stage managed affair with little dissent and no voices of opposition as their Tory masters will have written their script....of course I could be completely wrong.....

I SUSPECT CHRIS MULLIN HAD A SHREWD 'TAKE' ON CLEGG

When Our Nick (aka His Nick) rushed to the side of Cameron, I was painfully reminded of Blair rushing to Dubya's shoulder and - indeed - 'Bluebottle's' weekly rush to the paunch of Neddy Seagoon, to the cry of: "Can I be the man that - - - - Capting?"

The few truly mature individuals on this planet, need very little; the last thing they wish for is power. By the same token, those who work single-mindedly for ever-greater power, are desperately IMMATURE. Inside every powerful man is one of those tots who shoved the placid kid off the tractor. (Just what lurks inside power-hungry women, I would rather not bring into consciousness.)

I have often written: "Everyone has their price - I hope I am never offered mine."

CLEGG WAS OFFERED HIS PRICE. A lot of LibDems were sold down the river in consequence. It will end badly.
