Ed Miliband says no to Mandelson in shadow cabinet

Michael Crick | 13:25 UK time, Monday, 7 June 2010

I'm at the first Labour leadership hustings at the GMB conference in Southport.

And the very first question from the chair, Mary Turner?

"As Labour leader, would you invite Peter Mandelson to join your shadow cabinet?"

"All of us believe in dignity in retirement," replied Ed Miliband.

Now that reply is pure chutzpah!

Well, Mr Ed gets my vote, then.

WO' - LIKE TONY YOU MEAN ED?

There IS no dignity in Westminster. Dignity resides with integrity.

hmmmm interesting definition of dignity there from ed as Lord mandelson rushes to get his memoirs out on the streets.

Ed is suggesting it is dignified when clearly his 'retirement' is anything but dignified. Just goes to show labour is as in love with spin as it ever was.

Dignity in retirement in Lord mandelsons case would require a certain self inflicted famous japanese ritual or similar to be employed as oppose to the

'look at me look at me I am still important, I have secrets to tell, dirt to dish...stuff i know can sell papers, ruin careers, keep Michael Crick in witty quips at politicians caught unawares in the street for years to come ''

I am with Barrie Singleton on this one.

Neither of them has any dignity as clearly demonstarted by Ed's words and Lord Mandelsons actions. Just because what Ed says is funny and witty and makes journalists laugh does not mean that it is good.

Many journalists make that mistake, we dont pay you to laugh at the intellectual wit of politicians.

I liked the question somebody asked bother David in Southport today 'what did you want to be when you were a boy', to which a stumbling David replied 'a bus conductor whilst growing up in...'. Whereby he was cut short by the questioner saying 'well, you would have lost that job then!'

Maybe only ONE of the brothers has real chutzpah?

It's a shame that nobody was able to ask either/both of the Milibands today what their views were on this potentially explosive story...

    Wot he... they said.

The management of this country has been and will be ill-served if we continue to be subjected to the schoolboy antics and crushes of The Westminster Village and their useful idiots, at the expense of substance regarding real issues to those who generate income, much of which is then used to fund those who do not to do things I find either useless, wasteful or downright destructive.

if that is the standard what pathetic small minded questions they asked.

they are not really interested in what is good for british people. nor in a society building plan.

no Mandelson? Oh, really, that guy doesn't need to be invited into a room...he is already in it and arranging the furniture...
