Underground movement

Michael Crick | 15:25 UK time, Sunday, 2 May 2010

I plan not to vote in this election. However, I will gladly do so if any candidate where I live (Battersea) promises to vote for the reintroduction of capital punishment for the blithering idiot who designed the new Kings Cross underground station.

In the old days it was a quick hop between the mainline station and the tube platforms, which took no more than a couple of minutes.

Now one has to go on a long walk through maze of wide new shiny tunnels, which must add at least five minutes to the journey.

Annoying for me. And infuriating if you then miss your train because of the extra time it takes, as I did the other day.

It must be a huge lot of extra aggro for old people. Or people with kids, or with lots of luggage, or who are disabled.

Memo to the next transport minister: there's no point in spending hundreds of millions on faster trains if the walk at the end is a lot longer.

Kings Cross? Bloody furious, more like.

THE GREAT GOD HERMES IS INCANDESCENT MICHAEL.

Never mind your footling 'King', the God of Communication, Hermes himself, has had enough of 91Èȱ¬ time (and money) wasting.
Your post is a double whammy Michael. It is mote and beam time. When you have put your own (broadcasting) house in order, then you can wander off into tirading about the Underground - irrelevant as it is.

I wonder which candidate will be the first to promise what you want to get your vote?

What an easy life you must lead if this is the worst you have to whinge about

"I plan not to vote in this election."

Tell me Michael, what did over a million British people die for in World Wars 1 and 2?

    Hang your head in shame!

Just be thankful you could get to the train and afford the fare. Many can't.

The 'maze of tunnels' is probably 'people attenuation' it provides space for people to build up in during times of peak demand or malfunction which will allow adjacent platforms to function without geting clogged up with people and prevent large build ups of people on the street.

You are simply showing your ignorance I am afraid. I think they have done a good job of maintaining the character of the building while constructing the required additional infrastructure to deal with the hugely increased demand relatively un-obtrusively.

I am sorry about your extra 5 mins of walking Michael. Poor thing.

I guess you are one of those who goes into a rant when you turn the tap on and water does not come out, ignorant to the fact that that is an extremely rare event and ignorant to the huge amount of work and expertise that goes into maintaining critical infrastructure.

tut tut michael, terrible post this.

    you should apologise.

After following your blogs for many months now, and learning to trust most of what you report, I have now lost all respect.

How can you offer comment and opinion from a position where you do not even intend to take part in that activity which defines our Country, namely democracy.

I do not pretend to say that it is a perfect system, or even the best available, but our past efforts have led us here. Many in history have spilt their blood to fight and defend the right of the Country's people to vote, and your admission of not making the effort to vote I find breathtakingly offensive.

our trains used to be a national emblem now they are an embarrassment....

    but is it 'edgy'?

architects take no oath to 'do no harm' with their philosophies. neither do the architects of the nation.

Cue self righteous comments from the brain washed about not voting. Why shouldn't he abstain if he doesn't fancy any of the candidates? Why lend endorsement to a person or party who doesn't deserve it?

  • Comment number 11.

Battersea's a marginal, Michael - doesn't that whet your appetite? Your vote in a marginal has a weighting of 1.3. You should be so lucky! Sadly you don't have a Monster Raving Loony to vote for, but you do have two independents AND a Green besides the Boring Ones to choose from.

Abstaining and not voting are two different things.

Not voting means not going to a polling station

Abstaining means writing the word 'Abstain' on the ballot paper. It is counted in the election.

Mr Crick with his expensive private education and degree from Oxford knows this.

Michael. Even if you do not favour any of the candidates or want to show any political bias you should attend and spoil your voting paper. You will then have exercised your right which so many have been denied.

Trying to influence the candidates in your favour is equally distasteful.

Not going to vote ?? for shame Mr Crick .... trains are important btw
bloody furious about Kings cross .. well im bloody furious too so here is question to highlight it.
Why is newsnight or you not reporting the prominent Conservative PPC Philipa Stroud story ..she believes that gay people are demonic and can be saved in the evangelical churches she open? This is an insult to hundreds of thousands
Whereas Brown insults one lady and this is hot news ??
