Fielding feedback from DC

Welcome back to Europe, Formula 1! After four long-haul races, three different winners, no pole-to-flag victories and a slightly longer than expected stay in China, it was a shock to the system to sit on a plane for only a couple of hours to get to a race.

Now, along with less travelling, there is one big difference for us when we get to Europe -

Ferrari's, as you'd expect, stands out somewhat. Silver windows, bright red walls and three floors high.

is probably the coolest, all silver and black, and they also make a mean cup of coffee. It was the scene of 'sausage-gate' in 2009 season, when 91热爆 5 live commentator David Croft polished off a whopping seven sausages one breakfast time. He has since started looking more like a long-distance runner after an impressively successful diet.

I even bagged a guided tour of 's new 'paddock palace', which was making its debut, and I must admit it was pretty swish.

However, for all the sliding doors, ergonomically designed breakfast bar stools and flat-screen TVs, my favourite of the lot is grey, a little cramped, and is prone to slight flooding if we have heavy rain.

You see, the teams now have their own homes that will travel to the grands prix (except Canada) until Monza, and so do we.

On the long-haul races both the teams' homes and the broadcasters' facilities are provided for them at the circuit and, I know it sounds strange, but after a few races using portable buildings as production offices, we felt like we'd come home.

It was a little like going back to school after the summer holidays. You might not have been in your classroom for weeks but you still head to the same desk and hang your coat on the same hook, and we were no different.

I spent this weekend working away at the very desk I left in Monza last year, I even discovered a coat-hanger I'd left in there at the back end of the 2009 season.

However, while the paddock VIPs enjoyed fine wines and delicious meals just yards away, it was the welcome return of the chance to create the 'ultimate sandwich' that I enjoyed the most!

Along with the production office, editing facilities, sound booth and gallery, comes the most important room of all - the kitchen.

Despite a slight crisis on Friday when a late-arriving team member had to sneak some teabags into their hand luggage, it was a textbook race weekend for Pete, who's effectively our quartermaster.

As well as looking after the technical aspects of the truck, Pete heads off to the supermarket each day, picking up bread, salad, meats and cheeses so the team can ensure that, no matter how busy the weekend becomes, there will always be a bit of comfort eating just around the corner.

They say an army marches on its stomach, well the 91热爆 produces F1 based on the same principle it seems. and diet cola at 11am... our director knows how to live!

However, while the trusty truck is part of our lives again, it's still been a strange couple of races without my usual sidekicks to enjoy the action with.

was absent in China. This weekend it was turn to come up with a decent excuse...

And, to be fair, the famous is a pretty good reason for being otherwise engaged. DC spent Saturday cruising around Italy with former team-mate in a classic Mercedes gull wing car, although David admitted that Mika was hogging the driving somewhat. However, thanks to more ash-related frustrations, David was unable to join us on Sunday for the race.

Now, picture this. DC lives in Monaco and there would have been a raft of boats, restaurants, pools and parties that he could have frequented on Sunday no doubt. Instead, he spent the afternoon with us. Well, sitting in his room watching the coverage, anyway.

Just as we ended the 91热爆 One show and moved onto the red button F1 Forum, Mark the editor told me via my earpiece that he had been flooded with e-mails by David throughout the programme.

Sure enough, we got David live on the phone to confirm this. I then proceeded to ask him what he thought of the afternoon, meaning the race itself, and he launched into a critique of the 91热爆 coverage!

Now, I am only too happy to discuss the coverage with David and Eddie, as our sole aim is to make the programme as strong as possible. I just wasn't expecting to do it live on air.

But that is a snapshot of why David shone in a world as competitive and cutthroat as F1 - attention to detail! Now he has decided to be part of the 91热爆's F1 output, he wants to make it the best he possibly can. Merely acceptable isn't good enough. I did feel sorry for the masses of British F1 fans in Spain who were all asking if he was here. It seemed a certain couple had traveled from Wales just to see him!

I've actually missed having my two TV partners by my side since Malaysia. It feels rather strange listening to blasting down our earpieces and having only one friend to wish luck to. No, let me correct that. EJ's attention span is so so short that he is usually chatting to someone during the opening titles and has to be shoved into shot seconds before we're live anyway!

It's incredible how quickly you slip into a routine and create a bond with your on-screen buddies. I guess that's because you very quickly need to develop a comfortable rapport, a real trust of each other and an understanding of body language. It's an intense working environment and it is genuinely a little unsettling to suddenly be without one of them.

I'm pleased to report that both the guys missed being involved terribly, and we're looking forward to being reunited on a boat in just a few days' time.

I actually had the privilege of spending a morning in the company of Monaco Grand Prix winner last week, when we discussed the most famous race of all. He blew me away with , but I think that is deserving of a blog all of it's own.

Boarding our plane home last night, the one or two nervous fliers in our ranks were not helped by the fact that the plane next to us was for some reason surrounded by blue flashing lights... Hmmm! Mind you, we spent much of the day convinced we'd be driving to Nice... it seems the F1 circuit acts as an ash-magnet!

My phone has just buzzed with an incoming e-mail. I'd bet my house that it's from Monaco entitled 'areas for improvement...'

Have a great week and remember

Monaco, baby!

Glad to see you're back up to speed with getting your blogs out (if you pardon the expression!). I see from the first picture that Eddy wasn't quick enough when they were setting up the Ferrari motorhome... Perhaps you should redo the caption as "Eddy Jordan's screams fail to attract the attention of two passers by"

  • Comment number 2.

Jake, nce again great blog! Shame we had to go on a maze to find it being one of the first readers!

It's good to see that DC is so involved with the production, I thought his interest was fading as he has taken to the DTM & Mille Miglia. But it's good to hear how he wanted to make sure the 91热爆 output was good!

I can't wait for your coverage of Monaco & I can't wait to see the Q1 session with 24 cars on the streets at the same time...Karun for pole position as the 11 other teams forget to do a banker lap before someone slides it into the wall at Mirabeau?

Great blog Jake...keep it up! Any chance you'll be hosting the superbowl next year btw?!?!?

  • Comment number 3.

Nice blog once again Jake, it's always fun watching all of the 91热爆 output, from the Friday practice to the Forum, but especially on days like yesterday where the race wasn't exactly the most exciting, as your coverage and analysis makes up for it.

By the way, who is this Mike bloke you refer to in paragraph 18? Has Mr Hakkinen changed his name?

  • Comment number 4.

I guess that's what happened to the Ferrari engine tech who messed up their reliability. Great blog JH - looking forward to the Monaco Madness!

  • Comment number 5.

More important than the two failing to be attracted by the motor home, what is Ferrari mechanic doing with his legs sticking out from under it? Or is it a McLaren McHanic?....

  • Comment number 6.

Jake, great blog, enjoy reading it during my 11's.
Are you doing anything "special" this season for Silverstone? Last season you drove in the Elise Trophy and crashed into my mates car number 88 (I was the cheeky one in the pitlane who gave you the roll of duck-tape to fix your car) you looked really shook up.... Hope you and the team have something lined up.
Looking forward to the Monaco GP coverage............................

I see the Ferrari motorhome landed on top of the Wicked Witch of the East.

Is it Schumacher on a sabotage mission?

  • Comment number 8.

I'd change the caption on the first photo to "Man squashed by falling Ferrari motorhome fails to attract the attention of two passers-by"

Great blog Jake - much nicer the glitz of F1 in Barcelona than being in a temporary studio at Hillsborough with irate Wednesday fans trying to get in?

Really enjoying the 91热爆 coverage, and can't wait for the season's highlight in Monaco this weekend.

  • Comment number 10.

Hi Jake, Once again excellent blog - this time shame DC couldn't join in - damn Ash thing! I don't normally criticise F1 but have to say that the Spanish GP was boring (accept from the presentation obviously - I liked the election-theme thing, very good). I got even more fed up when Lewis crashed out with only 2 LAPS remaining. Lets hope that Monaco is slightly better.

    Hi Jake,

You shouldn't be so defensive about DC's live "critique" on air. I found it very refreshing actually, not only to hear DC's passion for quality, but also to get a little insight into how the 91热爆 internally reviews its coverage.

You see, as open and accessible as the 91热爆's coverage is, this is one area you're very closed about - you tell us that you listen to us and you're constantly looking for ways to improve, but we have no visibility of the thought process, or the decision making process, or anything that actually goes into your own internal review. So I for one would like to thank DC for his comments.

Of course, I don't expect you to air your "dirty laundry" (other than pinks shirts!) in public (especially if someone is getting a telling off!), but it just further adds to our enjoyment of your coverage to have this kind of insight too.

The key word is "engage". With your blogs, Twitter and the Forum and everything else, we the great unwashed, can really get engaged in your coverage, and hearing things like DC's comments only adds to that.

(I hope my comment is seen as constructive criticism too, btw).

I'd like to finish with my own little pet hate - please please please splice some live action into the opening credits! Animation - great; Music - great; Viewer stimulation - average.

Praying for no ash this weekend so you can all get to Monaco.

  • Comment number 13.

Enjoyed pretty muuch the whole weekend red button as well, the let down was we had to suffer an average race. It was a vist to times gone by to view how skilled at being negative Schumacher is. However I am looking forward to next weekend with keen anticipation.

    Hi all,

As some of you may know, I am responsible for the F1 blogs. Just a quick response to post 3. The substituting of 'Mike' for 'Mika' was a production error in the office in London - nothing to do with Jake. Thanks for pointing it out, and it has now been rectified.

  • Comment number 15.

    Quick question Andrew?

Is it possible to watch a live stream of the Red Button Forum on my PC? and if so can you put a link to it on the F1 page so we can find the live stream quickly and easily.

  • Comment number 16.

It is great to see the obvious rapport between you DC and EJ (and Martin when he joins the 3 of you on the Red Button), its also great to listen to Crofty and Anthony (and others) when they cover the practice sessions. However there does seem to me to be a distinct lack of rapport between the other commentating pair..... If anything needs improving in the 91热爆's coverage its that weak link that needs to be addressed.

  • Comment number 17.

Nice Write up nad some "interesting" lines...
By the way --the latest "Ring Tone" here for the FI heads is ...your guessed The Chain...

  • Comment number 18.

Thanks for the post Jake. Yes, after not being sure about the bickering between EJ and DC to begin with, I now really missed having the full team there...

Would like to second (or should that be 62nd) the point about Legard - I think he is very knowledgable and like him a lot, but he is not a lead commentator and in a race like this one David Croft is much much better at keeping things going.

It's not that Legard is bad, but it doesn't make sense to keep him there whilst David Croft is so brilliant at what he does.

But please don't let these negative comments overshadow a great team overall and a great blog.

  • Comment number 19.

Great blog as always Jake, your insights are always helpful and are a wonderful part of the F1 weekend for me. As well as following your Twitter account, it helps to 'live' the F1 weekend from home.

The coverage was brilliant as always, great editing and a wonderful piece at the beginning of Sundays show with the election spoof, it worked quite well.

I have to say that I did miss DC terribly, it's not the same without the three muskateers to take us through before and after the race and qualifying.

Thanks Jake, and the 91热爆 tem and I look forward to Monaco!

    Jake,
got the feeling that the forum was a bit flat this weekend perhaps everyone was seated to far apart.
Can you get some proper feedback on Williams into your programmes please as they are having a nightmare season but no information as to why?
Maybe they will give some hospitality to host the forum from there soon?

Looking forward to Monaco - best of luck

    Great blog Jake once again!
I was amongst the masses of British fans at the race this weekend and even being there didn't stop it from being a bit of a sleepy procession! I was however extremely shocked and quite upset at how horrible the Spanish fans were to Hamilton. I knew they had had problems with him in the past but I never ever thought it was this bad. Everytime he passed us or was shown on screen almost everyone would boo, whistle and even swear at him-even the kids were making rude hand signals at him! I'm actually very glad I don't understand Spanish so I didn't know exactly what everyone was shouting.
All I can say is bring on Monaco!

  • Comment number 23.

DC was definitely missed this weekend. All chemistry needs the right proportions of the right ingredients to get the perfect reaction. A bit like an F1 team in fact.

I'm chuffed that you were able to broadcast DC's critique as well as the analysis he provided to support the difficulties that live commentary faces. Your post race insight, as always, provides some additional feel to the coverage and continues to neatly fill the gap between races; be it short or long.

B.T.W. what is the ultimate Sandwich?

  • Comment number 24.

For me Legard needs to go, yes he has improved hugely since Oz 2009 but that really isn't saying much. There is no chemistry between himself and Brundle, it seems to me that Brundle now just ignores/puts up with him and phones in his race commentary (compared to his obvious enthusiasm for the sport as showcased on the grid walk, Red Button, videos and everything else he does) and that sucks. Brundle is a great commentator and worked brilliantly with both Murray and James Allen, those 2 teams could make dull races interesting. Where as Legard can make good races dull, and dull races......

Its nothing personal but Legard just needs to go. Either give Crofty a shot at the big time, or give James a call and see if he will come join the party (we know he is at the races). Both options would be fine with me MB and JA worked very well together on ITV, and Croft is great on the practices and I would love to see what he and Martin could do together!

  • Comment number 25.

Nice one jake. I was wondering who would become the 'leader' if you were stuck in england? somehow i can see Eddie keeping to the script!

  • Comment number 26.

Hi Jake, this is my first time posting here but I am a frequent visitor to your blog.

First of all thanks for taking the time to write these blogs I thoroughly enjoy reading them.

I have been watching F1 ever since Lewis H first season, before that I thought F1 was boring, but I have changed my opinion and I am completely at its mercy now.

The bbc coverage has been fantatsic, lots of features about the cars, terminology and the technical side to F1 ie the fduct, tyres all those sort of features which has helped me as a relatively newcomer to the sport.

but, I was very dissapointed with sundays coverage, it seemed to lack any real substance and I felt it sort of trudged its way to the main spectacle which was the race.

I fully expected with all the upgrades the cars were having there could have been more pieces regading this.

Nothing major but just found the coverage very mundane, which is very unlike you and the bbc regarding F1.

But thanks for all the blogs and great coverage up until sunday, keep it coming.

  • Comment number 27.

Its so nice to give feedback only to have the comments deleted by the mods. I could understand if they were offensive or libellous, but when its just myself and other license fee payers (I assume they pay their license fees) giving our feedback it seems a bit rich.

Can't wait for Monaco YEAH BABY!

  • Comment number 28.

Great blog as usual Jake. Definatly missed DC being there and I was working yesterday so as of yet have not watched the Forum (but i did love the 'advert' you did for it just before the end of the show). So I'm really looking foward to what he has to say.

See you next week at Monaco

    Hi Jake

Thank you for taking the time to do these blogs; I really look forward to reading them and all the comments after a race weekend. The gap between China and Spain seemed far too long so I'm pleased we don't have very long to wait until Monaco.

Absolutely gutted about Lewis; I do feel he has the worst luck but pleased for Webber.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

  • Comment number 30.

    Hey Jake,

I texted into the forum but you didn't have time to get round to me. How do you rate Renault's chances for the Monaco weekend? I write my own F1 blog (www.matf1.blogspot.com) and have tipped them in it but I wondered what you think?

    Great blog as always,

    Matf1

  • Comment number 31.

Jake, have a word with JB. If he wins this weekend can he repeat his run up the hill to the podium. One of the best moments of 09! Monaco baby, yeah!!

  • Comment number 32.

Huh??!? Why was my comment @11 referred to a moderator when I was just expressing my opinion about the service provided by the 91热爆 F1 team - supported by the TV license fee, if I may - in what I believe was a civilised manner? What kind of moderation is this?

I'll be looking forward to reading an explanation before I comment any further on this.

    Not a happy bunny.

  • Comment number 33.

I have admit there was a certain something lacking at the last 2 races, i think it was DC and Eddie arguing :) by that i mean the chemistry they have, like 2 old friend rowing for fun :)

    Another Great Blog.
The Spanish GP wasnt the best GP to watch, they do use it though but we will see what Monaco Springs.
It did feel weird for DC to miss it but can I say didnt EJ look a bit happy that DC wasnt there? Can I note, did EJ sent an Volcanic Ash Cloud to stop DC? Also funny that DC got to Monaco then Spain....I wonder why????
Also Jake, great thing you did tying in with the election. I sense that you could be lined up to replace Jeremy Vine!
    Cannot wait for Monaco...loks like Rain's a-coming!

  • Comment number 39.

    Good blog, as ever.

I found it very funny to see your reaction to what DC was saying - it was clear that that really wasn't what you were expecting!

I'm not sure how well having him contribute over the phone worked to be honest - especially if he couldn't see the live picture, so couldn't follow you that way. I think you'd have done better without him phoning in, but with more of the other people there chatting. Since Martin Brundle gets on so well with the sky germany lady (Tanya?), get her to give some comments!

  • Comment number 40.

It would be great to get Tanya on the show somehow, or to get a blog from her. I often wonder what other countries experience of F1 is without the excellent (and privileged*) position we have in the UK.

    * I don't know how true it is but I have always felt that with the likes of Murray, Brundle and now DC and Eddie that we British fans have not only a ringside seat but also a back stage pass that grants us excellent access into the sport.

  • Comment number 41.

Very interesting to note that - according to the 91热爆 moderators - my comment @11 and I assume seisteve's @20 have been removed because "Your posting appears to be off-topic, in that it does not appear to relate to the subject of this blog."

The topic of this blog is feedback on the 91热爆 F1 service, so expressing a criticism of a team member's performance does not appear to me that 'off topic'; moreover, if that's the yardstick, then show some consistency and remove all posts that do not specifically refer to DC's comments.

    Thoughts, anyone?

    @ cordas & all others.

I am pleased to see someone managed to voice their critique of the team without being removed. This blog is a great one, and whilst it may not be satisfying everyong @ the 91热爆 formula 1 team, I wholeheartedly agree...Jonathon Legard's commentary is not upto what we came to expect on ITV. I love everything the 91热爆 has done with the F1 coverage that ITV was missing, but coras is right...their is no chemistry between Brundle & Allen (I never rated Allen that well) but at least there was something there. Legard had earnt his place presenting, but perhaps at time's these things need reviewing 91热爆?...Anyway Jake, great blog & thanks for letting us discuss the 91热爆 proesentation of the F1 coverage!

  • Comment number 50.

Its great to have Formula One on 91热爆 but i must admit Formula One have done a Big Mistake by not having Fuel Stops.

It is like watching Boycott batting all day, you need to turn over because nothing is happening.

For Television the new format (or oldschool) ie, no Pit Stops, it can be very boring for TV. Now we can pop out for a Tea Break and nothing has changed in the Race.

All the Exitement has gone, it seems now. The Race starts on Saturday and Finishes on Saturday with the Lap Times.

Formula One must revert back to Fuel & Tyre Stops. There have been more boring Races this Year than the last 5 years. Only when it Rains does it get exciting.

I am sure the TV Audience will drop by Millions if this carries on. Can you remember an exciting part of the Spanish GP. I dont think so. Its more exciting watching the race for Pole, that cannot be correct !!

In the late seventies without refiiling for fuel, this was good because Teams never had enough Fuel to Finish the Race because of the lack of Knoledge, ie Computers. Now its Boring. Even Cricket made Changes to make Entertaing for the Television Audience. Create Fuel Stops please.

  • Comment number 51.

    @46 and 49: indeed.

That's my point too: so long as it is civilised and properly argued, I do not see why it should be censored.

    Cheers folks!

    Jake,

Great blog as always. I can't wait for Monaco this weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing yourself, Eddie and David altogether again. It doesn't seem quite right when there are only two of you!

Just another point, was I the only one that was quite intrigued by the wikipedia entry for a cheese and ham sandwich?!!!

  • Comment number 53.

    @50
I agree that there have been some dull moments so far this year, but I can think of a couple of exciting moments in the Spanish race, mainly in the last few laps.
For the rules to be changed mid way through a season to bring in refueling would be completely unfeasable. I believe that the refueling ban was brought in for economic reasons and if it wasn't for that, and some other changes (limited engnes, gear boxes, tyres) we might not even have a Formula 1 series to watch.
I am also not sure how you can say that a race victory is decided by the qualifying result, as so far the only poll sitter to go on to win the race this year is Mark Webber in Spain.
I think that the qualifying format is genius, I look forward to saturdays as much as sundays now and really feel that I get value for my licence fee, when it comes to F1 at least.

鈥渋t was a shock to the system to sit on a plane for only a couple of hours to get to a race.鈥

    Yeah, Jake, dear all,

It鈥檚 a nice shock though 鈥 we in Europe are bit spoilt for travelling hours. (BA strikes permitted. Hope they really sort their internal issues so we can fly again properly).

So, Monaco, this weekend, a? I think, as the past few years always been, I will have sincere smiles more than 78 times this weekend. Anytime we pass the La Rascasse corner. Though at the present F. Alonso is in the red car. (I may get mixed up WHEN to smile).

It鈥檚 going to be interesting for me what pre race, etc. programme you gonna produce. Because one of the biggest critics in 2006 鈥 very very outspoken - was Keke Rosberg. And the only person to give a little bit of a doubt was Nico Rosberg then.

However, guys, why I am going back to that year again and again is not the qualifying Saturday. It is the Sunday race and day. Not only what we were seeing and experiencing; not only the commentaries (that time ITV1 with almost the same personnel); but also and an article following the race in Daily Telegraph. I keep mentioning this from time to time too but one day when you see it you would know what I meant and why. It鈥檚 just the quality of the performance and the quality of the article. It was good stuff.

Anyway, last Saturday I was spot on 鈥 12:15 sharp 鈥 ready for the pre-qualifying 91热爆 coverage. And you all were late 30 minutes. Because of politics TALKS only. Really am hoping this Saturday they finish 鈥渢he talks鈥 and you are 12:10 sharp on the air as normal.

There are good bunch of drivers in good teams this season. I don鈥檛 expect anything too exciting but overall may be a thrilling weekend. We never know.

Regards to EJ and DC also.

Well done to all in 91热爆鈥檚 team! (so far)

Enjoy the boats and the pretty faces. And the race.

    JL

PS. Dear Jake and all at the 91热爆 Blog Team; sorry for the first time. And it was comment at No. 48. Another mistake : )

Best and sincere regards. (We will learn)

  • Comment number 55.

I have to agree with others and their comments about Jonathan Legard and Martin Brundle. The same sort of conversation was going on this time last year. Nice guy, but as far as a commentator goes, he just doesn't cut the mustard. I would like to see James Allen brought back to partner with Martin - they worked well together, complimented each other, and frankly, were a better fit.

  • Comment number 56.

    Hey Jake / guys.

This is the first time i've done this sort of thing so you'll have to bear with me.

With regards to the previous comment about Jonathon Legard, give him a break. He hasn't exactly done much wrong and when he does it's funny. Bit like when Murray got things wrong, you had to laugh. I met him at last years Spanish GP briefly and he seemed a really nice guy.
However, I do agree that there was a better chemistry between Brundle and Allen.
Jake, maybe you could suggest a team building exercise and put those two on the same team?

It'll be great to get the three amigos back together this weekend for the first time in three races!

Btw, on the first picture in this blog, not only were the passers by not interested in the Ferrari Motorhome, but they failed to notice the Wicked Witch of the East stuck underneath it!

Nice blog Jake. Gives the real fans an interesting insight into a side of F1 only the rich and lucky get to see.

    P.S. how did I do?

@36 - Sam, I think Lewis's decision to sack his father has something to do with the reigniting of his relationship with the singer. I can only imagine how unpleased Anthony was when Lewis took off just before a big race to fly to Los Angeles to see her - and I hazard a guess that he didn't hesitate to let him know. I could be wrong, but that's my take on the situation.

I wonder if DC had anything to say about Jonathan Legard's commentary? I expect we will never find out. Or DC had pressed the red button and was listening to Mr. Croft and Paul di Resta (who did a good job) like the rest of us.
Incidentally, I saw David Croft commentating on the darts and he had some expert dartist person with him and did not feel the need to interrupt or point out the blindingly obvious and so on.
With the football coming up in South Africa, the Beeb has a golden chance. Mr. Legard is a football commentator on the radio. He will do that fantastically well I am sure. So move him into that team and at least move Mr. Croft, if not get James Allen back. Check out JA's website with the Silverstone track guide if you want to see the Brundle/Allen on-screen chemistry at work. It is still there.
Overall, thanks 91热爆 - the F1 coverage is great and the majority of the team has gelled and you have a good product. But for me, the red button to remove JL's audible assault is the most vital part.

We can but hope adtrad, watching that clip on JA's website about the new Silverstone layout was great. They have a quiet chemistry but its just a pleasure to listen to.

    Hi Jake, and dear all

I don鈥檛 think anybody will come back to this blog at all; and I really don鈥檛 want to be the last one here - to finish the 鈥減age鈥. But as I made a little 鈥減romise鈥 to some important people yesterday, will write a bit.

    For our Jonathan Legard.

Ladies and gents, honestly I almost forgot what we were talking about him as a commentator in the beginning of LAST season. I thought most of you would have been settled with him by now. I am watching and carefully listening to pre-races, races, but my focus is not on JL鈥檚 commentary only. Otherwise you all definitely are missing more important things. The real action.

And now I am (perfectly) fine with Jonathan as part of Brundle 鈥 Legard commentary. Yes, I did noticed one very obvious : ) mistake at the past weekend in Spain but that only made me smile. (Like Aynsley at #56). Cos it was obvious error.

Ok, in reality the thing is that JL is still a very important part of the 91热爆鈥檚 F1 team. That means there are reasons behind this (positive ones I hope) why he is still besides Martin Brundle and commentating. And this continuity is over a year within the whole team. That SHOWS that JL is ACCEPTED and SUPPORTED. He hasn鈥檛 changed his STYLE and is the same commentator as we started. Of course, improved in my view; but his STYLE is the same. Like it or not. That shows me 鈥 acceptance and supporting within the team. No pressure for him to 鈥渃hange鈥 style, etc. etc. or to 鈥渁dapt鈥 to what most viewers keep saying and suggesting. J Legard IS part of 91热爆鈥檚 F1 presenting team and there are reasons he to be there. Do they have to tell us 鈥 the positive and all reasons - why he is still an important part? People鈥檚 perception about his commentary may not change.

In a way I鈥檓 impressed with 91热爆鈥檚 attitude. And I am backing him up and all at the 91热爆鈥檚 F1 team for your knowledge and professionalism, etc . Plus the RIGHT to chose and STICK to that choice!!!

And I think at the end Martin Brundle is the man to say or require or raise any specific issues. But they work together over a year already.

So, in my view if 91热爆 F1 team are still accepting and supporting J. Legard as a commentator and integral part of the team, with his knowledge and STYLE, etc. why we need to keep coming against him and the 91热爆鈥檚 choice?

I think they all know what and why they are doing. And why they STICK behind JL.

Ladies and gents, then just we have to do the same and enjoy what鈥檚 in store. And respect 91热爆鈥檚 and the team鈥檚 choice.

PS. I am not sure I read any blogs from Jonathan Legard recently; but next time I may even contribute there.

We 鈥 the viewers and listeners 鈥 need to give them all a lot of break! They have plenty important work to do. For us.

Regards from me to all and good luck over the weekend.

    JL (the ladies version : ) )

    Hi Jake,

Keep up the good work on the F1 show, didn't envy you having to put up with Eddie Jordan all alone for the Barcelona GP weekend. The Chinese GP was pure bliss without him around, but without DC around you realise just how much rubbish Eddie spouts. Why the 91热爆 keeps employing him is beyond me. It's clear all the team bosses despise the bloke and he continually shows how little he understands modern F1 and how little he appreciates all the hard work done by the normal engineers back at the factory. Fingers crossed his plane gets cancelled for a few more GP's this year!

Looking forward to tomorrow's race, should be a tense start.

    Hi J,

Monaco practice. I noticed you were advertising an iPad throughout the show - I hope this is not going to happen on Sunday.

    Jake,
    HA! HA!
I'm LOVING your comments about Jennfier Lopez, Phillip Green & whatsisname and all the glitter... your "everyman" attitude to F1 is great -and likewise for the rest of the 91热爆 F1 team. It closes the sometimes yawning gap between the two worlds of the F1 business/sport and the viewer. keep it up fellas.

Hi Jake, thoroughly enjoyed your banter with Dave'n'Eddie,(sounds like a pop group)again this week, that poor cameraman, hope you had a towel for him, does he get danger money, splashing around in a jacuzi with all that heavy and expensive equipment....
I want to ask about the prop you were clutching this week, is it an iPad, and if so what do you use it for? when you have finished with it perhaps you would like to do a 'Mark Webber' and throw it me!!
    Thanks,
    Chris.

I must confess that the initial welcome to 91热爆 for the F1 coverage was a huge plus over the old advert ridden ITV coverage.

However I have some gripes wit the current temam that th 91热爆 use.

DC - we all know you are on the Red Bull pay role, and hats off to you for that but please try and keep the commentary fair and un biased - all too often MB & EJ seem to drag you off on some tangent that seems to favour one driver / team over the others.

MB - We are all aware of the no love lost between you and Schumacher over the years, but for goodness sake drop the knife that you seem to be all too keen to stick in his back.

EJ - For a former team owener I expected more from you, but you are by far th worst link in the team. In between the constant sniping and uteer drivel you come out with you are spoiling the coverage.

As for the rest of the guys - keep up the good work.
