Chinese Base Camp

The team have now been at Chinese Base Camp for three days, I think. Some of the team have had problems with coughs and colds, and there has been some trouble with the altitude. However, the team's health is now improving generally. This is good news as we are off up the mountain in just over 48 hours. I must apologise for the lack of blogging for about three days. When we first arrived at Chinese Base Camp, it took a while for the comms to be sorted.
The team have been working hard trying out all the scientific protocols, and this has been very successful on the whole. Most of the equipment has performed as we would have hoped, and our testing plan is running to schedule. The climbing leaders have been putting us through our paces, checking our rope skills, and we have started to send kit up the mountain on yaks.
The weather has been kind so far. It can get as hot as 20 degrees centigrade when the sun is up, but the moment the sun goes down, the temperature plummets, and everyone gets out their down jackets and woolly hats. Tonight it has started raining. I hope it does not continue tomorrow, as I need to do some washing before we go up the mountain.
Chinese Base Camp appears quite luxurious. We have a mess tent, shower tent, and a stone toilet block. Our cooks are doing us proud, and we are being provided with three hot meals a day. This is very important as we will lose weight as we gain altitude. Blog soon. Thanks for all the messages of support.
