We've just heard that 91Èȱ¬ One are welcoming Liverpudlian comedian John Bishop to Saturday nights - he's going to host his own show called John Bishop's Britain.

It will be a mix of stand-up and real life stories from celebrities and members of the Great British Public (that's you). John will perform sets on universal themes such as parenthood, love and marriage - putting his own family life, passions and problems under the spotlight in a jam packed show.

John had this to say: "I can't wait to share the views of the Great British Public with 91Èȱ¬ One viewers and to meet with some exciting people and swap our stories, the stuff that makes us who we are."

For a taste of what's to come, here's John talking about his kids on , and refelecting on growing old with .

Whilst I admire much of John's humour and his honest and direct delivery, I have to say I found the first programme in his series exclusively heterosexual - there were no amusing stories about gay people getting together, or joining in a civil partnership.

Another trait I've noticed in Mr Bishop's work is his frequent use of the various names for the 'male member' as a negative word or swear-word.

Not convinced that either of these things is very positive or welcome.

Other than that, quite a nice idea for a series.

John has been given a great opportunity to appear on TV with his own show and let thousands of fans enjoy his material and yet I feel he is wasting this chance. As an avid comedy fan I can help but notice John reusing the same material on different TV shows. In fact, all the material so far on his new show is recycled but with added skits from "TV personalities."

This in my opinion is not good enough and as a comedy writer I feel so frustrated as I have worthy material coming out of my ears and it doesn't take long to write. It comes naturally. However, most of my material will never be produced or even read as so many people like John are saturating the TV with repeated material. Its bad enough that programmes are continuously repeated without having so called "new" programming with old jokes.

In conclusion, I've heard it all before John, it was funny on Mock of the Week when you said it the first time. You're a funny guy - don't waste your talent by boring us with the same old chat.

After a very dreary night on the T.V. your programme was welcome, particularly as you and my husband share the same name and whats more, I come from the Mersey Side. Keep up the humour John it's very welcome

John Bishop is one of the best comedians this country has produced. Why then do we have to listen to the thoughts of Tara What's her name Tomkinson and several other has beens and "nobodies at all" during the programme. We certainly do not need the pathetic "sketches" which pertain to represent John as a young man. One of our greatest comedians ever Dave Allen was ruined in just the same way when he was persuaded to present a series for television. Get back to your roots John! You do it so well!

I have really enjoyed the series so far.
I love the mixture of celebrities and members of the public who have offered their own views and opinions.
Yes, I have heard some of the jokes and tales before, but they are funny and a lot of people will not be familiar with John's work. For example, my parents wouldn't watch something like Live at the Apollo or a comedy DVD, but I showed my mum a programme on iPlayer and she really enjoyed it.
I love the Manchester and Liverpool rivalry stuff :)
I hope that others have now seen John's comedy style and hopefully he'll go on to do bigger and better things.
I can't wait to see him live in Wolverhampton in December (I think it is).
Hopefully there will be more John Bishop on the Beeb!

Never seen him before, best fresh face since Al Murray. Much easier to watch then the wobble headed fella that had the previous show.
Good fun, will look out for him again.

I have to agree with 91Èȱ¬ iD g60_jh, John really deserves this chance to shine, and he's doing a brill job. I'd love to see him fill the Friday Night With Johnathon Ross slot, I believe he'd do a the beeb proud.

John nailed it on the head about the different aspects of life, never laughed so much especially the slot about the one pound flight with ryan air. Hopefully we will see more of John on the 91Èȱ¬. I agree with Teriana - John would make an brillant replacement for Johnathon Ross - probably better than Ross....
