As Manchester United's weary players began to flag, Liverpool fans were paying homage to a pennant of a different kind - which (perhaps unsurprisingly) had nothing to do with Jermaine.
The features a picture of Rafa Benitez underneath the Spanish phrase 'siempre es possible' (It's always possible) and the Liverpool manager revealed it played a major part in him finally signing a new long-term contract.
Benitez said: "It belongs to one of our supporters, and he carries it to every game. I met him last week, and he was telling me I had to sign, saying 'I hope it is for 10 years, no, make that 20 years!' It was really funny, but it also showed the incredible passion of the Liverpool fans and the support they give their manager." The Reds marked Rafa's new deal with a- banner from heaven indeed.

But if you believe what you read, that is exactly what Wayne Rooney will have done after by the (was anyone really shocked at that comment, by the way)?
'A source close to Rooney' (so it must be true): "He's not the best singer in the world but Wayne loves Lionel. He knows the words to every one of his songs and is constantly singing them to Colleen." Poor girl must have been to Hell-o and back. (Coat etc).

In the week Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he was a , Jose Mourinho finally met his Waterloo.
Fergie's fancied Cheltenham horse was seemingly still running when Manchester United's clash with Inter kicked off, but his quest for the unprecedented nap hand remains firmly on course.
Mourinho, who previously held the Indian sign over Sir Alex, began the week by suggesting he could replace his rival one day, but the Old Trafford faithful left the Portuguese in no doubt as to their feelings, with chants of "You're not special anymore!"
