Jonas Brothers - 'Love Bug'

Jonas BrothersIt's always annoying for a reviewer when you have an editorial slant all set up in your head and the single then, for whatever reason, resolutely fails to fit in. For example, a friend of mine inspired the line "Jonas and the Fail" this week, which I thought would be cracking material if this song turned out to be awful, only for me to discover that it's...actually pretty decent. Dammit.

As easy as it is to be very cynical indeed about the Jonas Brothers, I can't help but respecting them for churning out good, no-nonsense pop music in a time when many would think it deeply uncool to do so. Admittedly, there's something about them which leads me to suspect they're not overly bothered with coolness, but all the same - peer pressure is hard to escape at their age, I would think.

To matters of business: 'Love Bug' is something of an oddity, because it has this lazy, contemplative air about it, like it's in absolutely no rush to get anywhere, but it's surprisingly heartfelt and charming. There's a bit of a calypso feel to it which, again, is something you don't really get a lot of in the charts these days. It does feel out of season, because it's the sort of song that would sound great on the radio in the summer when the air's sticky and you just want to lie down and sip on something chilled with your sunglasses on, so I'm a little surprised they're releasing it in November.

However, everything comes to rights about a minute and a half before the end when the tempo kicks up a notch and the swaggering guitar solo kicks in.

Much to their credit, all of this unconventionality really works in the song's favour - it's different in a good way, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few people hearing this on the radio with no prior knowledge of who's performing it would be shocked when they found out who it is. Maybe I'll have to change my joke to "Jonas and the Flail"...

i love this song and their cheesiness and the album version talking bits of the song are hilarious :D

  • Comment number 3.

    Pure Cheese.

Also, just a comment, the last ten reviews have been: Jonas Bros, Will Young, PCD, Madonna, Oasis, McFly, Same Difference, Ti Ft Rihanna, Take That, Christian Falk. And the one before that was John Barrowman.

I know you can only review what is put before you, but blimey, this is turning into a right cheese festival!

(And I'm including Oasis in that.)

Where's the 'edge'? Or is it banned since Manuelgate?

The Edge is currently recording the new U2 album under the influence of an effects pedal called the Supersonic Fuzz Gun, according to reports.

    Hope that helps!

  • Comment number 5.

that's fine so long as he doesn't phone anyone!

The Supersonic Fuzz Gun sounds great, must have a million uses.

I guess the cheesiness at the moment is due to all the Crimbo releases. Ah well.

  • Comment number 6.

Yeah. You might as well give in.

Go and see High School Musical III. That'll sort you right out.

  • Comment number 7.

  • Comment number 9.

  • Comment number 10.

I personally think, that it doesn't matter how cheesey everyone thinks they are THEY'RE AMAZING! Their muic rocks ad I love it, I don't care how cheesey it is! x

  • Comment number 11.

lots of my friends love them.... but tbh i think they r too cheesy 4 me =/ x

  • Comment number 12.

    I LOVE THE JONAS BROTHERS.
they are amazingly nice guys and make amazingly amazing music.
if you listen to the lyrics it is an amazing song.
doesn't matter if they are ( as annie mac would say ) in the 'disney mafia'

they have produced an outstanding song which really takes you back to old memories and the music video fits very well with the melody and type of song.

its different than their usual music which is good, you will get bored of the same old song if they kept making the same type of music.

i have always been a fan but i am also a fan of other amazing artists.

and they are not cheesey, definate overstatement.

they are just unique amazing artists and people.

they are grateful for everything and don't take anythink for granted like other divas and artists that dont care about the fans and are just in the business for money.

getting a bit off the topic but had to express that.

the song definately deserves a 4/5

i love the show fearne and reg.xx

There are obvious reasons why the Jonas Bros are so successful, but none that I think are relevant enough to make me a fan. This song is well written to say the least.

I Hyped Jonas Brothers on Everhype and gave it 40% which I think is fairly accurate.

I wouldn’t mind getting some opinions on it . If you get on there, rate me a 5 & request friendship.
