Remi Nicole - 'Go Mr Sunshine'

remi_nicole_100.jpgAccording to Ms Nicole, you can only tell it's summertime if it's light at bedtime, if you're hot, if you're a man with no top on and if you've a new bikini (from a very specific high street retailer) to brag about to your friends. Can I just reassure all ChartBlog readers past and present that if this is true, I have NEVER EVER experienced the full delights of a British summer. Not once. And even if I had, there would be NO pictures of me doing it. Not a one. Nada. Zip.

Wait, before you all go and throw up at all these pungent images, let's pause for a tiny second to examine the rest of this strident little beauty. What we've got here is a resurrection of the great Britpop knees-up, an artful (dodger) upgrade of the kind of swaggering 'Lambeth Walk'-style chipper cockney swagger-song you used to be able to see pearly kings and queens doing down the Old Kent Road, once upon a time (in Jack White's imagination).

And in keeping with the latest developments in modern songwriting for the lady singer-songwriter (naming no names...but they rhyme with Willy Gallon and Bait Stash), there's plenty of deftly-spotted, slice-of-lemon-life lyrical wisdom for non-dancers to nod sagely alone with, while the show-offs are bouncing about like those cheeky cockneys I was talking about earlier.

Sadly, despite scoring major art points for having a video in which she performs in front of animated beer crates, Remi lets the side down a bit by not dressing as a pearly queen or king, nor does she yell "OI!" at any point. But there IS a brilliant trad jazz interlude instead of the third verse, and that more than makes up for it.

Whether it makes up for the mental image of yours truly in a bikini is a whole other thing. Try not to think about it, is my advice...

I love this song! Makes me feel 100 percent happy, and maybe it's stopped the curse of 'Umbrella' - since the first time I heard it earlier this month, it's been SUNNY, SUNNY, SUNNY! :)
