Strummer Holidays
While all the rest of music-kind is gearing up towards this summer's massive Live Earth concerts - which will feature pop stars demanding that the government teach us all about why it's very important to switch lights off, boil less kettles and wash clothes at a lower temperature to save carbon emissions, by using all of that saved energy (and more besides) to stage an enormous ROCK PARTY, ALL OVER THE WORLD (what? That's right, isn't it?) - some of the equally green-friendly members of the indie community are making their own, less gargantuan statements about the harmful effects of needless travel.
The Holloways are a band whose thoughtful new single 'Generator' is a very direct way of telling everyone who likes to moan about their inner turmoil to just shut the hell up and have a dance, gawdsake. Look, here's the video. No poetic hidden messages here!
They've also been working with Friends Of The Earth on their campaign called The Big Ask. The band's end of which is all about encouraging people not to fly off to foreign parts for their summer holidays, and to give British seaside resorts a try instead. This would cut down on the amount of flights, and therefore have a dramatic effect on carbon emissions due to air travel, see?
And to make DAMN SURE you indie-lovers have something to do when you foresake Ibiza for Southend, the band are embarking on a summer tour of seaside towns - RIGHT NOW - which they will travel to in their private jet rickety old tour bus. They're going to Morecombe, Bournemouth, Cleethorpes, Penzance...all over*.
The band's singer Alfie explained: "We do love to be beside the seaside. Whenever we're on the road and near the coast we head for the nearest beach and hit the amusements arcades. We wanted to do a tour that promoted tourism within the UK and to encourage our fans to back Friends of the Earth's Big Ask climate campaign."
More info on The Big Ask can be found at , but, more importantly, 'Generator' by the Holloways is in your shops from June 11th, and in your electricity-powered internet from, well, now!

the whole live earth thing is a great idea on paper (dont worry, its recycled paper) but your right that theyr being hypocrites as theyll be using so much energy for the gigs, all the carbon emissions which will be polluted getting everyone to the many venues and all the rubbish which will be left over will just go into land fill and decompose to produce methane (another greenhouse gas) and theyr only some of the environmental problems this will cause!...its like when prince charles went to america to win a green prize, think of all the pollution that caused!...all in all its not looking too good :S and if its anything like live 8 nothing will happen because of it anyway. out of curiosity do you know if theres going to be a gig in the usa?
