Hydrogen as a renewable resource
Description
Hydrogen is a colourless and odourless gas. When combined with oxygen in a fuel cell it can generate electricity that can be used to power vehicles, operate tools or heat houses.
Classroom Ideas
Students could discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this energy source. They could also note that at the moment it is not a renewable resource but it will hopefully be one in the future. Students could be asked to consider why the development of renewable energy sources is important and consider the implications for the future if we do not develop this kind of technology.
Students could then work in small groups to search for other renewable energy sources such as wind turbines, solar power or tidal power and consider the advantages and disadvantages in the same way. They could then hold a classroom debate on which energy source will be used the most in the future.
