Let's go out鈥 into space
Let's go on a sensory journey into space. Let's listen to the sounds of the of the space rocket and watch as we orbit around the world together.
Special thanks to NASA for helping to make this sensory story.
Make your journey more sensory. Try using any of these items while watching. Don鈥檛 worry if you don鈥檛 have everything or there are things you don鈥檛 want to include. Make your sensory journey one you will enjoy.

Let's get active
- Bubble machine
- Airbeds, hammock
- Balloons (Helium, if possible, to simulate weightlessness)
Stepping out into outer space
The airlock is open, and your spacesuit strapped on. Hold on tight to your spaceship, or you might soon be gone.
Let's get active
- Foil
- Bubble wrap
- Space ship toys
- Figurines to dress the astronaut
The Moon is orbiting around us
I see the moon glowing bright as it orbits the earth. Gather moonstones and moondust to find what they are worth.
Let's get active
- Kinetic Sand (multiple colours)
- Crushed cereal
- Sieves, containers
- Space toys
- 鈥橰ocks鈥 - balled up tinfoil or gems hidden in sand to find. Who will find the most?
The stars in space
A billion stars flicker their bright, distant, light. With your telescope in hand, you can see them at night.
Let's get active
- Kaleidoscopes
- Fairy lights
- Star projector night lights
- Black out tents, curtains, and sheets
- Kitchen roll tubes can make a fun telescope
There are eight planets in our Solar System
Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, Mars, there are many planets amongst the stars. Some have gas, some have ice, some are bigger than ours. They all spin and are round like a ball. In our Solar System, how many planets in all?
Let's get active
- Inflatable planets (Painted beach balls if needed)
- Sensory foam
- Kinetic Sand
- Ice
The sun is bright and hot
The sun in the sky is a great, burning ball. It is huge and bright and hot most of all.
Let's get active
- Torches
- Heats packs/heater to simulate the suns heat
