Question
What might some of Blackman鈥檚 key messages be in Boys Don鈥檛 Cry?
Blackman could be showing how difficult parenting is and encouraging society to support single and teenage parents, rather than criticise them.
She could also be highlighting how damaging homophobia is and showing that it is still an important issue in the UK.
Another message could be about mental health and the need to communicate openly, especially amongst men.

When Melanie leaves Emma with Dante to go to the shops, his immaturity is clearly shown through his lack of parenting skills.
