Wallace's death

Description

Wallace and his men were overwhelmed by Edward I鈥檚 archers at the Battle of Falkirk. Thousands of Scots were slaughtered. Wallace escaped but was hunted down as an outlaw. Popular belief is that Wallace was betrayed by a fellow Scot before being taken to London for trial and execution. Many of the details behind this are based on a poem by the minstrel Blind Harry, but the accuracy of this is questionable.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss why each piece of evidence noted in the clip cannot be considered completely reliable, and consider what it means to be biased. Students could write newspaper articles about Wallace鈥檚 death from both the Scottish and English perspective.
