The importance of Sikh traditions
Description
The importance and symbolism surrounding the Sikh tradition which includes, not cutting their hair, and wearing a turban. An animated story about how the Khalsa was formed in the year 1699 by the Panj Pyara, or Five Beloved Ones, is also shown.
Classroom Ideas
Students could examine what items of clothing identify people as belonging to different groups, such as football kits, uniforms and costumes, then compare this to the Sikhs鈥 use of the turban. Students could recreate the story of the Five Beloved Ones in role-play, or retell it to one another in pairs.
