Hand stitching

Hand stitching is used in either the construction of textile products or as decoration. Different embroidery stitches and threads are used to sew different fabrics and to create different effects.

Couching

The technique of couching is used to sew thicker yarns, cords and mixed media items onto fabric, by hand. Having pinned the yarn in place, an overcast stitch is used to sew over the yarn keeping it in place.

A wide zig-zag stitch can also be used to produce this technique on the sewing machine.

Machine applique - is the process in which decorative fabric shapes are sewn onto a base fabric using a sewing machine.
