Evaluating and analysing the fitness of athletes - OCREvaluating fitness of performer

In order to plan an effective training programme, performers need to know which types of fitness are important for their sport and what their own fitness strengths and weaknesses are.

Evaluating fitness of performer

Most types of fitness can be assessed using recognised tests.

  • Cardiovascular endurance/stamina 鈥 Cooper 12 minute run or Multi Stage Fitness Test (MSFT)
  • Muscular endurance 鈥 press up test or sit up test
  • Speed 鈥 30 m sprint test
  • Strength 鈥 1 rep max or handgrip dynamometer
  • Flexibility 鈥 sit and reach test
  • Agility 鈥 Illinois agility run

Look back at the Health, fitness and exercise study guide for how to administer the tests.

A fitness test results chart will show a performer which fitness types are their strengths (the tests they scored well in) and which are their weaknesses (the tests they didn't score well in).

A fitness evaluation chart can be produced from the fitness test results, for example:

Name of performer: A. N. Other
