The research sheet

This sheet is to help you during the write-up. It should be no more than two sides of A4. It must include the resources you will use in your Source Evaluation section.

The sources you put on the sheet are there to prove that you conducted research for your assignment and therefore should be selected from the sources that you used. The best advice is to have between three and six sources but you can have more if you wish. It is best to have a variety of text and statistical sources.

You must show where the source came from. This could be a URL, the date and channel a programme was on, the organisation and their webpage 鈥 enough information so that it could be checked.

Advice

  • It is best not to take large quotes from sources because if you simply rewrite them you won't get any marks
  • Remembering the quotes will get you marks for knowledge. Comparing and contrasting short quotes from different sources will get you marks for comparing and contrasting
  • If you are using information from your resource sheet then you must do something with it such as evaluate it, interpret it, judge it
  • It is best to label each source 1,2,3 or a,b,c so that you can refer to it easily
  • Do not put the source evidence in the order you will use it in the assignment. This would make it like a plan. Your research sheet cannot have a plan on it. It should only be a selection of sources to help you write it
  • By the end of your assignment you should have made reference to every source on your research sheet
  • All information on the research sheet needs a source
  • You can have a source with no information because you have remembered it for knowledge marks
  • Don't directly copy from the research sheet
