Electrical current transfers energy around circuits. There are two types of current: direct and alternating.

What is the current if 20 C of charge flows through the filament of a lamp in 5 s?
I = \(\frac{\text{Q}}{\text{t}}\)
Q = 20 C
t = 5 s
\(I = \frac {20~C}{5~s} \text = 5A\)
The current flowing through the lamp is 4 A.
How much charge flows when a current of 2 A flows for 3 minutes?
Q = It
I = 2 A
t = 3 minutes = 3 x 60 = 180 s
Q = 2 A x 180 s = 360 C
The quantity of charge is 360 C.
