Learn how to answer questions in Gaelic
Remember that there is no one set of words for yes and no in Gaelic. Your answer will always depend on the verb used in the question. Revise past, future and conditional verbs and in particular the irregular verbs.
An do ch貌rd a' bhliadhna seo riut? - Did you enjoy this year?
颁丑貌谤诲 鈥 Yes
Cha do ch貌rd 鈥 No.
Am bu toigh leat a dhol dhan oilthigh? 鈥 Would you like to go to university?
Bu toigh - Yes
Cha bu toigh 鈥 No.
If you are able to use the correct verb then you are off to a good start in showing understanding and maintaining the conversation.
Try not to use one word answers too often.
Interjections and connectives
Aim to use interjections and connectives as well, this gives the discussion a good flow. Here are some examples:
Mar sin 鈥 So, therefore
顿矛谤别补肠丑 鈥 Exactly
Cuideachd 鈥 Also, as well, too
An uair sin 鈥 then
A-nis(e) 鈥 Now/then
Uill 鈥 Well
Gu dearbh 鈥 Indeed
Gu deimhinne 鈥 Certainly
惭补谤-迟丑脿 - Already
Ceart gu le貌r 鈥 All right, okay
Seadh 鈥 Yes, Indeed
'S d貌cha 鈥 Maybe
骋别-迟脿 鈥 However
颁辞-诲丑颈霉 鈥 Anyway/whether
