Wheelchair basketball - chair control and catching the ball
Chair control
Being able to control the chair is of paramount importance in wheelchair basketball.
Catching the ball
Safe catching of the ball is an essential skill to keep possession of the ball from the opposition, and if done quickly, gives the player more time to make the correct next decision.
Face the direction of the ball, anticipate when it will come towards you and maintain eye contact.
Hold hands out in front of your body at chest high.
Fingers should be spread open and pointing up.
Thumbs should be an inch or two apart making a 'W' shape.
Travel (if necessary) toward the ball and watch it the whole way into your hands.
Flex your elbows slightly and relax your wrists as the ball hits your fingers, to cushion the pass.
