These questions are asking you to prove how accurate or inaccurate you think the given statement is.
So if the statement was, "To what extent is it accurate to state that Government policies are successfully tackling the problem of alcohol in Scotland?", your task is to use the sources to prove if they are are not working.
You must use evaluative language to say whether they largely are or are not tackling it. It doesn't matter what side you come down, for or against the statement, but you must use the sources to prove your point.
Advice to remember:
- you should ensure that by the end of your answer you have made use of each source at least once
- for a detailed point with analysis and/or evaluation you can gain up to three marks
- marks are awarded if you link information within or between sources
- You should start your paragraphs with something like "Evidence to support/against the statement is in Source A where it says "quote" and this is backed up by Source B where it says..."
- if you are struggling to find supporting points you can make individual points that are worth one mark
- to finish your answer you should make an overall conclusion worth two marks
- you should try to make use of new information in your conclusion
