The Prizes
For winning their respective Category Final, each of the five Grand Finalists receive £2000. In addition, each Grand Finalist wins the opportunity to give a lunchtime recital at Wigmore Hall in autumn 2008 as a result of support from the Tabor Foundation.
The overal winner carries away the title of 91Èȱ¬ Young Musician of the Year 2008 plus a Travel Award to promote his/her studies.
The Walter Todds Bursary
In memory of the late Walter Todds, founder of 91Èȱ¬ Young Musician of the Year, a total bursary of £1000 will be allocated at the discretion of the 91Èȱ¬ to the performer or performers who do not reach the Grand Final but who show great promise.
The Tabor Award for Promising Talent
An award of £2000 to one competitor will be made at the discretion of the 91Èȱ¬ in order to help with the costs of special tuition. It is the hope of the Tabor Foundation that this award will enable the competitor to achieve his/her potential.
Eurovision Young Musician 2008
91Èȱ¬ Young Musician of the Year has, in previous years, sent a representative to the Eurovision Young Musician competition which in 2008 will again form part of the Vienna Festival. As the Eurovision competition is taking place on almost identical dates to 91Èȱ¬ Young Musician, Philip Achille who competed in the 2006 91Èȱ¬ Young Musician of the Year on Chromatic Harmonica will be representing the UK.
