A group of women who risk their lives and liberty to campaign for equal rights in Iran have been given an international Anna Politkovskaya award.

The Million Signature Campaign is building up a petition to put pressure on the Iranian government to improve the treatment of women.

Many of the activists have faced imprisonment and some have been tortured and abused whilst in detention.

One of the campaigners, a lawyer called Leila Alikarami, came to London to collect the award.

Also at the ceremony was the author Azar Nafisi whose memoir Reading Lolita in Tehran gave rare insight into women's lives in revolutionary Iran.
