Euro 2024: Championship weather
- Published
The UEFA Euro 2024 Championship gets under way on Friday in Munich with the first match between host nation Germany and Scotland.
It is likely to stay dry for this match, with temperatures of 17C for the 20:00 BST kick off. But what does the weather have in store for fans and players during the rest of the tournament?
The weather this weekend and for the first half of next week will be dominated by an area of low pressure over the UK - no change there, then.
For Germany this will bring some heavy and thundery showers and a few longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be a little below average, with highs into the low 20s - comfortable conditions for the players.
Supporters would be advised to pack some warm layers, though, and prepare for some cool evenings.
High pressure will bring some drier and warmer weather for the second half of next week, with maximum temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s. It will feel quite hot.
This fine weather isn't set to last though, with thundery showers and a few longer spells of rain returning for the second week of the tournament. Temperatures will likely be close to or a little above average, so it will feel warm in any sunshine.
Flood threat
Germany has seen some flooding over recent weeks.
The ground in large areas of southern Germany and parts of the north-west remains saturated following very heavy rain.
This means that any intense downpours during the Euros could increase the chance of localised flooding in these areas and might disrupt travel plans.
It is certainly worth keeping in touch with the weather forecast.
