Teamwork
A good team player is somebody that does their own job, is unselfish and willing to work for others. The people that get to the top in team sports are very much team players. If you are an individual then you get found out very quickly.
Rugby gives you skills in teamwork and working together. In education you sit down and you work. Some of it is down to an individual effort, but it's also about coming together and doing your bit to make sure the team is healthy and successful. Rugby and other team sports are vital, especially for children, to learn how to interact with each other and other people.
Communication is crucial
Team sport is all about communication. You've got to talk to understand what is going on around you. It's making sure that you call the right moves and that they are implemented properly. If somebody's going flat out and you are communicating to them from behind, they know they've got options. Everybody takes responsibility for their own game and making sure that you can move forward as a collective.
Work hard and achieve your goals
You can have fantastic talent, but you also need to work hard. The people who get to the top of their class in sports such as the Olympics, international rugby and international football are the players that have the ability, but also have the work ethic.
Take the bits of advice that suit you and your style. You should always look to achieve your goals and you should always look to achieve your dreams, but the important thing is to have an education to fall back on.
