Raise Your Game: How did you get involved in sport?

Julian Adeniran: I was a very late starter in sport. I took to hurdles like a duck to water. In 2005 I was spotted at an independent school's meet in Bromsgrove and I ended up in the English Schools Championships. National titles and European World Juniors followed and now I'm stepping up to senior levels.

RYG: What skills have you gained through sport?

JA: Sport teaches you many transferable skills which you can use in your everyday life. It's the discipline, commitment and the respect between athletes.

RYG: Have you made many sacrifices to get to this sort of level?

JA: I don't see it as a sacrifice because I am doing what I want to do. It does take a lot of dedication, commitment and willpower because there are setbacks, but you've got to pick yourself back up and carry on.

RYG: How important is time management?

JA: I think that comes with the territory, and it's something that will imprint itself upon you. I'm studying a law degree alongside my aspirations to be a London 2012 prospect. It's difficult balancing the two, but as long as you have the passion, commitment and good time management, you can do it. Where there's a will, there's a way.

RYG: How important is it to set goals?

JA: It's extremely important. I'm a young athlete developing to the senior ranks and I need to have long-term and short-term goals to keep me on track because there will be setbacks. You need to keep looking forward, keep aiming high and in the end you will succeed.
