91훑괵 Wales - Childhood in Wales

In March 2009, 91훑괵 Cymru Wales turned the spotlight on childhood with a special season of programming and online content about growing up in Wales today. The season coincided with the 50th anniversary of the United Nations' declaration on the rights of the child and followed a series of reports about the state of childhood in the early part of the 21st century. By asking What are we doing to our kids? the aim was to spark a national discussion across a range of themes, from how youngsters play today to the plight of those raised in poverty.

Are we allowing our children enough opportunities to play freely - or are we too worried about the risks they may face?

Family structures are changing with more lone parents, step-families and working mothers. But do our children still get the support they need at home?
Perceptions

Teenagers are more likely to volunteer than any other age group but is there a tendency for society and the media to demonise today's young people?
Values & Boundaries

Most children learn their moral codes from family, teachers and friends but in today's celebrity culture, are children looking to other role models?
Well-being

We all want our children to be happy and healthy but is there more we could be doing to promote their mental and physical well-being?
Poverty

Standards of living may have risen generally but more than one in four children in Wales still lives in poverty so what more can be done to close the gap?
