Look out for Newcastle landmarks such as the Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge, Grey Street, the Monument, and the Central Arcade. Film fanatics might even spot the Bigg Market toilets and Sarah's Tuck Inn in the Grainger Market. "Newcastle was such a treat to work in because it kept presenting us with such interesting visual structures such as the Tyne Bridge," said Don Taylor the designer. Location manager Ben Goodacre was also impressed by the city. "There's something very proud and magisterial about the city," he said. "The quayside has some impressive iron jetties and stone warehouses that are very photogenic." Purely Belter used riverside locations GatesheadOne of the most prominent locations in the film is the Angel of the North which the two heroes see as their own angel, "the guardian angel of toe-rags". Don Taylor was impressed by the massive sculpture. "The first time I stood underneath the Angel, I found it a strangely spiritual experience." "Trying to film it, of course, was a far less heavenly affair - but the footage we have of it gives real power to the film." Gateshead's Dunston Staithes was also used for the scenes when the two lads plan their scams. Meanwhile St James' Park and Sunderland's Stadium of Light both double as the home of Newcastle United football club and Toon legend Alan Shearer made a cameo appearance in the film as himself. last updated: 23/05/2008 at 17:42 SEE ALSOYou are in: Tyne > Entertainment > Hollywood On Tyne > Features > Tinseltoon: Purely Belter
