Darlington FC - Potential buyers come forward

For the second time in just over two years, Darlington Football Club is in administration, but hopes are high that the club's future can be secured, and former manager David Hodgson believes that promotion is still a possibility.

David Hinchliffe of Walker Morris solicitors in Leeds, who operate on behalf of the club's administrators, has spoken to 91热爆 Tees and says the Quakers' 拢300,000 shortfall is manageable and that the club, in its present state, can be sustained until the start of next season.

"We've had five or six people who have shown interest to date. Two or three are people that I do know of, who give me some good, positive feeling."

He confirmed that at least five parties have approached administrators with a view to buying the club and, while recent board members are unlikely to launch a solo bid themselves, the likes of George Houghton and Raj Singh could form part of a successful bid to save the club.

"We have got some people coming in showing an interest already in the football club, but if there is anybody out there who is interested in the club and the stadium is for sale as well, then they should come forward as quickly as possible."

Former manager David Hodgson steered the club through a period of administration in 2004 and told 91热爆 Tees he was shocked to discover Darlington FC had found itself in financial trouble again, so quickly.

"It's sickening to find ourselves two years, just over two years, since we came out of administration, to find ourselves with this level of debt... The sad thing is that we were bordering on getting into that second, stroke third spot with games in hand and we get deducted ten points. That's horrible, but I still think we can recover from that, but it will all depend on how the staff hold up morale in the club today to carry them through."

He says the club can still win promotion, which would secure interest from the right kind of buyer.
