Foster's War of the Worlds

It was 30 years ago that you were rushing to your local record shop to get your hands on an album that has gone down in history - Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. John Foster jumped at the chance to talk to his hero.

War of the Worlds has sold 15 million records worldwide, charted in 22 countries and been No 1 in eleven of them.听 Numerous accolades acquired, including the best-selling original UK 'Soundtrack' in 25 years based on a 91热爆 Radio 1 chart, two Ivor Novello Awards, as well as the USA Best Recording in Science Fiction and Fantasy, judged by none other than Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock and George Lucas.

Inspired by the HG Wells novel, the album features a blend of prog rock, classical and literary influences, coupled with the haunting narration from Richard Burton - and performances by artists, including David Essex, Justin Hayward, Phil Lynott and Julie Covington.

91热爆 Tees' breakfast show presenter John Foster is a huge fan of the classic and has a rather unique claim to fame.

John starred in the Orson Welles adaptation of 'War Of The Worlds' at Middlesbrough Town Hall as part of the AV08 Festival.

Alongside John in the production were Teesside actors Mark Benton and Michael Hodgson.

When the chance came to talk to Jeff Wayne about his modern classic John jumped at the chance.

To mark the anniversary there is a live tour which comes to Newcastle in June 2009.
