Whether you love Middlesbrough for what it is, or for what you hope it can become, there is no doubt the town has a PR problem.

The push to get Middlesbrough a bit of love could not have come at a more appropriate time. A policy advice group has released a report saying attempts to regenerate some northern cities have failed and has suggested that people living in the region should move to the south east.

Policy Exchange, which has close links to the Conservative party, says cities such as听 Liverpool and Sunderland have lost much of their "raison d'etre" with the decline of older industries.

"Not sure about the moving south, been there done that, and returned North. It begs the question where would we all live now that Prescott's bright ideas of 300,000 houses per year have been scuppered. I always wonder how much these 'Think Tank' folks get paid and whether I should apply for a job on one."
