Widnes Vikings hooker Lloyd White will captain Wales in the Rugby League European Championship in October.

White, 26, who has won 12 caps, will lead Wales in Tests against Scotland, France and Ireland.

"I'm very pleased to have been appointed captain and obviously I'm looking forward to it. I'm proud and hoping to do a good job," White said.

Wigan prop Ben Flower, 27, who was last year given a six-month ban for punching, will act as vice-captain.

Flower was sent-off in the Super League Grand final for punching St Helens' Lance Hohaia.

"I'm pleased that Ben Flower has been appointed vice-captain," White added.

"He's one of my closest mates, has been since the Celtic Crusaders days, so it should be good.

Ben's captained Wales in the past so I'll be relying on him to help me along."

Wales will face Scotland in Wrexham on Friday, 16 October (kick-off 20:00 BST) before facing France at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, 30 October (18:30 GMT). Wales finish the tournament by travelling to Bray to face Ireland a week later.

During the tournament Wales will play a Keighley Select XIII at Cougar Park on 25 October in the Danny Jones Testimonial.

The game is in memory of the Wales stand-off who collapsed while playing for Keighley in May 2015 and later died, aged 29, because of a heart condition.
