Masters 2013: Jamie Donaldson fires hole-in-one at Augusta

Jamie Donaldson needed only six holes on his Masters debut to secure a place in the record books by firing a spectacular hole-in-one at Augusta.

The 37-year-old Welshman became only the fifth player to achieve that feat on the 180-yard par three sixth hole in the event's 77-year history.

That took Donaldson to one under par, but he dropped four shots on a poor back nine for a two over par total.

Ian Woosnam also hit an eagle during his round, but finished on eight over.

Woosnam's highlight came on the par five 15th when he rolled back the years with a stunning second shot over the greenside water to within three feet, and he made no mistake with the putt.

"They were the best two shots I played all day," said the 55-year-old, the second Welshman in the field.

The rest of the round was more of a struggle for the 1991 champion, making his 25th appearance at the event, with double bogeys at the par four ninth and par three 12th.

A first round total of 80 means Woosnam faces an uphill struggle to make the cut for only the second time in 12 attempts at Augusta.

"I hit too many bad ones," he added. "It was my first competitive round of the year and it showed. I'm tired.

"It's the first time I've walked a round of golf in six months so I can't expect too much."

After celebrating his hole-in-one - the 24th in all at the Masters - Donaldson hit pars at the next three holes to end the front nine on level par but three dropped shots in as many holes took the shine off his round.

He recovered to birdie the par five 13th, but a bogey on the final hole gave him a round of 74.
