Britain's Andy Murray beat Philipp Kohlschreiber for the second time in three days in a late finish at the Madrid Open.

Murray's 6-4 3-6 6-0 second-round win after his first-ever Munich title on Monday at the German's expense.

Following lengthy matches, including Roger Federer's defeat by Nick Kyrgios, Murray started at 01:12 (00:12 BST) and finished at 03:00 (02:00).

World number three Murray plays Spanish wildcard Marcel Granollers on Thursday.

The start time was one minute short of the latest ever on the ATP tour - that was 01.13 local time in the Rio Open - and when it finished Kohlschreiber was visibly tiring.

Murray took a 3-0 lead in the first set and closed out, with Kohlschreiber, 31, doing the same in the second.

Murray had needed a third-set tie-break to win his first ever clay court title on Monday, but the 27-year-old Scot had the better stamina in Madrid and broke the world number 24 three times in a comfortable final set.
