Roger Federer overcame Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the Cincinnati Open for the fifth time.

The Wimbledon champion recorded a 6-0 7-6 (9-7) win over the Serb in an ideal preparation for the US Open, which starts in New York on 27 August.

He overpowered Djokovic to win the opening set in 20 minutes and held on to win the second set tie-break.

"It's been an amazing week and a magical summer and I'm looking forward to New York now," Federer said.

The 31-year-old Swiss world number one, who was beaten by Andy Murray in the final of the Olympic men's singles, has now won six ATP tournaments this year.

Djokovic, who retained his Rogers Cup title in Toronto last weekend, admitted he had struggled in the opening set.

The Serbian said: "He was the better player and started off really well and I made a lot of double faults and unforced errors.

"I had my chances in the second set and missed them and Roger deserves the trophy."
