England's Laura Massaro has lost the British Open final 11-3 11-5 8-11 11-8 to Camille Serme.

The 31-year-old, who won the previous three meetings between the pair, was beaten this time as Serme became the first Frenchwoman to win the event.

"I'm disappointed but I'm proud of my week," said Massaro, competing in her third successive British Open final.

Bristol-based Egyptian Mohamed defeated Gregory Gaultier of France 11-9 6-11 5-11 11-8 11-5 to win the men's event.

Sheffield's Nick Matthew, seeking a fourth title, had gone down 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 11-5 to Elshorbagy in the last four on Saturday.

Massaro to beat defending champion Nicol David in the semi-final but could not repeat the trick on Sunday in Hull.

"I don't feel like I really could have given it much more out there," said the third seed, competing since taking a break from squash in February due to fatigue.

"It was a really big win yesterday beating Nicol and obviously that match just took a little bit too much out of me."
