Sports Personality of the Year top 10: Andy Murray
- Published
Andy Murray once again proved himself to be one of the world's best tennis players in 2011 - a stunning feat in one of the greatest eras in the history of the men's game.
The 24-year-old came excruciatingly close to winning his first Grand Slam title in Australia in January but he succumbed to an inspired Novak Djokovic in the final.
Further Grand Slam heartbreak followed, with Rafael Nadal proving to be a constant thorn in Murray's side, edging him out in the semi-finals of the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Scot Murray has still managed to win another five titles throughout the year, playing some of the best tennis of his career in the process.
The Dunblane-born's consistency saw him trade places with Roger Federer in the world rankings, moving up to third prior to the ATP World Tour Finals.
But an injury at the ATP World Tour Finals cut short Murray's season and Federer regained the number three spot.
