European Games 2015: Amber Hill wins skeet gold in Baku

Amber Hill claimed Great Britain's first shooting gold at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, while team-mate James Heatly won diving gold.

The 17-year-old Hill beat Italy's Diana Bacosi in the women's skeet after a lengthy and tense battle that went to a 30 clay shoot-off.

Heatly, 18, triumphed in the men's 3m springboard to finish on 541.65 points, 18 clear of Italy's Ruslan Cristofori.

Meanwhile, Brinn Bevan, 18, won a bronze in the pommel horse.

"I didn't think I was really in with a chance of a medal," he said.

"It's my first senior international up against all these big names so it's been great just mixing with them. I'm really chuffed."

Hill 'absolutely buzzing'

Hill was named the 91热爆's Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2013 after she became the youngest winner of a senior World Cup in skeet shooting.

Opponent Bacosi missed one of her final pair but Hill scored with both hers for a win that earns Team GB a third shooting place for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

"I'm so proud and honoured," she told 91热爆 Sport. "I knew I wasn't going to let her win because I have been fighting so hard for this.

"I can't believe it's finally happened after a bit of a rocky start to the year so I am just absolutely buzzing."

'I'm off to call my grandad'

Heatly made it a hat-trick of medals in the competition after winning silver in the 3m synchronised springboard and bronze in the 1m springboard.

"At the beginning of the event I didn't think I would do it," said Heatly.

"I'm over the moon to win three medals, especially as I didn't expect it. I'm going to go and see my parents now and give my grandad a call."

Mixed results for GB boxers

British boxer Sandy Ryan advanced to the quarter-finals of the women's light-welterweight division with a points win over Germany's Cindy Rogge.

Ryan, who won a silver medal at the World Championship in November, faces home favourite Elena Vystropova in the last-eight.

In the men's super-heavyweight division, Joe Joyce knocked down Moldovan Alexei Zavatin three times on his way to a powerful first-round stoppage.

But Bury flyweight Muhammad Ali - on his 19th birthday - suffered a cut from a head clash towards the end of the first round against Italy's Vincenzo Picardi and was ruled out of the tie.
