Dragons have confirmed captain Ben Carter has signed a new "long-term contract" with the Gwent side.

The 23-year-old, who has taken over the captaincy for the 2024-25 season, has committed his future to the Dragons but the exact length of the deal has not been disclosed.

Carter has played 12 internationals since making his Test debut in 2021.

"This is a statement re-signing for us and we are thrilled Ben will continue his rugby journey with the Dragons," said head coach Dai Flanagan.

"Ben is an outstanding player, someone who has the right qualities to lead and play a big role for club and country in years to come.

"He represents our future as one of our key individuals we are determined to retain."

Carter has followed in the footsteps of Wales number eight Aaron Wainwright and wing Rio Dyer who both signed Dragons deals last season.

The lock will be hoping to be involved with Wales in the autumn internationals against Fiji, Australia and South Africa in November.

"The Dragons is an exciting young group to be a part of and I'm determined to take a leading role in helping us continue to develop as a squad and achieve our ambitions in the seasons to come," said Carter.

"You can see the progress we've made as a group with the performances we have put this season and now it is about turning those into positive results."
