Scrum-half Lloyd Williams has signed a long-term contract with Cardiff Blues.

He has made 24 Wales appearances and played a key role in the 28-25 win over England at the World Cup.

The son of ex-Wales and Lions scrum-half Brynmor, Williams, 25, made his Blues debut in 2010 and has played 98 games for the region.

"Lloyd has that X-factor so we are naturally thrilled he has signed new terms with us," said coach Danny Wilson.

"He's a perfect example of a Cardiff boy who has come through the system here at Cardiff Blues and who wants to be part of what we are building and compete for the jersey.

"Lloyd is an international-class player, something he repeatedly proved at the recent Rugby World Cup, and I think he has a big future for Cardiff Blues and Wales."

Another Blues back, is being linked with a move to the Scarlets.

The Blues have not commented on that, or confirmed the length of Williams' contract.

Williams was understudy to Scarlets' Gareth Davies for Wales at the World Cup, but it was his contribution as a replacement on the wing that made the headlines at Twickenham.

His cross-field kick enabled Davies to score a crucial try as Wales fought back to win against the odds.

Williams was Blues' top try-scorer last season with 11 in 25 appearances in all competitions.

"I'm really pleased to have agreed the new contract," he said.

"I feel like things are going in the right direction and I'm looking forward to being part of that.

"Since coming back from the Rugby World Cup, it has been really refreshing to be part of the new environment which Danny Wilson has implemented."
