Liam Williams is a World Cup injury worry for Wales after undergoing foot surgery.

A Wales statement says the Scarlets full-back will continue to prepare for the tournament.

His former Scarlets team-mate, centre Jonathan Davies has been ruled out by a knee injury.

Williams, 24, has made 23 Wales appearances split between wing and full-back, the position in which he is a challenger to Leigh Halfpenny.

Wales have not revealed the specific nature of Williams' problem, describing it as "a foot complaint".

They have also not detailed when he is expected to return to full fitness.

The tournament kicks off on Friday 18 September when hosts England take on Fiji at Twickenham in Pool A.

Wales' challenge in the group, which also includes Australia, kicks off against Uruguay on Sunday, 20 September in Cardiff.

Warren Gatland's side will prepare for the tournament with training camps in in the heat of Qatar and experience high altitude in Switzerland.

They will also return to Poland, where they have twice held camps under Gatland and train in north Wales.

The 47-strong training squad will be trimmed to a final 31 at the end of August, following two warm-up games against Ireland.

Wales complete their tournament build up by hosting Italy at Millennium Stadium on Saturday, 5 September.
