Former British and Irish Lions coach Sir Ian McGeechan has taken temporary charge of Yorkshire Carnegie after the departure of head coach Tommy McGee.

McGeechan, the Championship club's executive president, will head a team of coaches, also featuring former Bradford Bulls boss Francis Cummins.

McGee, 35, only took over at Headingley after Gary Mercer left in November.

"It's a matter of managing time and getting the right things in place," McGeechan told 91热爆 Radio Leeds.

"We want to have a real go for Premiership status next year and we want a coach who has that kind of experience.

"The new board are keen that we take the board forward and we are very mindful of making the club the best it can be for the supporters.

"We want to be in the top group of clubs in this division by the end of next season."

Carnegie are currently ninth in England's second tier, 10 points outside the play-off places.
