Cardiff Blues coach Dale McIntosh says the region want to bring Wales centre Jamie Roberts back to the Arms Park.

Roberts, 28, could be released by Racing Metro at the end of the season, a year before his contract expires.

The British and Irish Lions star has been coy about his future, and McIntosh would be eager to see him return.

"Jamie is a world class player. If you ask me would I want Jamie Roberts, it would be ludicrous for me to say no," he said.

"I would be very, very surprised if he didn't want to come. If it all fits, I'm happy to go with it."

Roberts could return on a Welsh Rugby Union dual contract, with Wales head coach Warren Gatland stating his desire to see all Wales' exiled players coming back.

The 2009 Lions man of the series joined Racing from the Blues on a three-year contract in 2013.

He has had a mixed time in Paris, and he said last year that he wants to return to his home region before the end of his career.

McIntosh, in temporary charge of the Blues with Paul John following the departure of Mark Hammett, would welcome such a move.

"Would I want Jamie Roberts? Of course I would," he added.

"Not only is he a great player, he's a great person and he understands the value of this jersey.

"He's very respectful of this area and he's very respected in this area. He's got a lot to offer us."
