Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend thinks there is room for improvement despite his side retaining the 1872 Cup with a 21-17 win over Edinburgh.

"The pulse rate did go up," said Townsend after the home side fought back in the final quarter of the match.

"Edinburgh certainly got the momentum in that last period, but I know we've got a very good defence.

"To get three tries was great and to get the win and retain the cup was excellent."

Glasgow, who lifted the trophy for the fourth successive season, had won 23-14 at home last week and were well on their way to victory with a 16-3 lead at Murrayfield.

But, after Edinburgh came close to a victory in the second leg, Townsend said: "We know we're not the finished article.

"We've got a lot to work on: one is playing for 80 minutes, another is our discipline, which has got to improve.

"It's a continual process. We know we have to kick on now."

Glasgow dominated up front and the win would have been more comprehensive had a Dougie Hall score not been curiously ruled out and had Stuart Hogg not dropped a ball over the try-line.

"We were disappointed we didn't get the fourth try," Townsend said.

"There was one that was disallowed which would've been a cracking try; I'd love to work out why that was disallowed."
