Glasgow's Stuart Hogg out injured for two months

Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg will be out for up to eight weeks following an ankle operation.

The 20-year-old Glasgow star underwent surgery last week after being troubled by the injury since Scotland's successful summer tour of Australasia.

He will therefore be a fitness doubt for the autumn Test series which opens with New Zealand's visit to Murrayfield on 11 November.

Hogg made his Scotland debut during this year's Six Nations campaign.

His assured performances were one of the few bright notes for head coach Andy Robinson as the whitewashed Scots collected the Wooden Spoon.

And Hogg carried on that impressive form in the morale-boosting summer victories over Australia, Fiji and Samoa.

Meanwhile, Glasgow lock Tim Swinson faces three to six weeks out with a facial injury suffered in a pre-season friendly against Sale, while the club's medical staff are investigating hooker Pat MacArthur's foot problem.

The RaboDirect Pro12 season kicks off on 31 August, with Glasgow away to Ulster.
