Argentine centre Juan Pablo Socino has left Nottingham after agreeing a compensation deal to to be released from the final year of his contract.

Socino signed a two-year deal when he joined from Rotherham in April 2011.

Director of rugby Glenn Delaney said: "It was disappointing. We comply with every contract and expect players to do the same. Juan indicated that he would not, so we have come to an agreement."

Meanwhile back-rower Rupert Cooper, 24, has signed a one-year contract.

Delaney said the club would not try to keep an unhappy player.

He added: "Juan is a young player with tremendous talent, but if he has decided that he doesn't want to be here then we will look for someone that is able to be 100 per cent committed to the club.

"Juan has gone back home to spend more time with family.

"We thank him for everything that he did for us last season and we wish him the best for the future."

Nottingham, who narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship play-off semi-finals last season, return to pre-season training on Monday, 28 May.
