British rider Bradley Smith said he was "positive" despite crashing out of his MotoGP debut at the weekend.

Oxford-born Smith, 22, failed to finish having started from ninth on the grid at the Quatar MotoGP, but still remained upbeat after the race.

"There were so many positives," he told 91热爆 Sport. "We upped our performance from testing, learned how to ride the bike and upped the pace."

Smith is riding for Tech 3 Yamaha after making the move up from Moto2.

"We are on the right track, I'll learn from this one for sure," he added.

The race was won by defending MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo on the opening weekend of the season.
