Daniel Lascau has been named as the British Judo Association's new performance director.

Lascau, who was born in Romania but competed for Germany, won World Championship gold in 1991.

British Judo chairman Densign White believes the 42-year-old is the right man to lead Team GB into next year's Olympics in London.

"Daniel is a world class judo technical expert and leader and we are delighted to secure his services," White said.

"We have a number of athletes who can deliver Olympic medals with the right preparation - and I believe Daniel is the right person to take on that challenge."

Lascau has most recently held the vice-president role at the European Judo Union, having held a similar position at the German Judo Federation.
